Noranda Alumina Supplies Cemtech

David D'Addario is an accomplished senior business executive with three decades of leadership experience in the metals industry. More than two decades of that, David D'Addario has served as the chairman and chief executive officer of New Day Aluminum LLC and its Noranda Alumina and Noranda Bauxite subsidiaries.

In 2020, New Day Aluminium Holdings LLC executed a letter of intent through its subsidiary Noranda Alumina, with Cement Materials Corporation. The agreement entails Noranda Alumina supplying 60,000 tonnes of bauxite residue for cement production. An aluminum-rich ore, bauxite is an efficient raw material in chemical and cement industries. This is preceded by an approval from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) for the use of bauxite residue in the cement industry.

The Chairman and CEO of New Day Aluminium Holdings, David D'Addario, stated that the corporation is committed to the enhancement of the sustainability of the business while simultaneously mitigating the environmental footprints of industrial processes. He also stated that the agreement and recent approval from the LDEQ are parts of their endeavor to achieve the aforementioned objectives.

Noranda Alumina Signs LOI Cemtech

With over three decades of experience in the metals industry, David D’Addario has overseen major transactions including those of subsidiaries Noranda Bauxite and Noranda Alumina.

Noranda Alumina, a subsidiary of New Day Aluminum LLC, recently signed a letter of intent with Cemtech Materials Corporation with the aim of selling 60,000 tons of bauxite residue beginning in the last quarter of 2020. Under the deal, bauxite residue will be utilized in the cement production process as a substitute for iron (Fe) and subsequently replacing other iron-bearing raw materials that were currently in use. Based in Gramercy, Louisiana, Noranda Alumina produces both smelter-grade and chemical-grade alumina, which is sold to buyers who utilize it for aluminum and other metallurgical uses.

An approval from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) paved the way for Noranda Alumina to supply bauxite residue to cement producers. According to David D’Addario, the chairman and CEO of New Day Aluminum Holdings, the company is keen on adopting a sustainable business model, while at the same time reducing its environmental footprint as it works its way toward achieving a zero-residue refinery in Gramercy.

An Overview of Bauxite and Its Uses

Bauxite is an ore that is rich in aluminum and has different uses in the production of refractory materials that are used in various types of cement and chemicals. Refractory materials are also used in the steel industry, fuel, and building materials.

Bauxite comes in the form of a sedimentary rock before it is processed. This ore is classified into two different types, gibbsite and boehmite, which use low-heat and high-heat processing methods, respectively. Gibbsite is the more valuable of the two types. This is due to the lower melting temperature of the metal. Alumina is extracted from bauxite ore through various chemical processes.
