New Day Aluminum Seeks to Improve

New Day Aluminum LLC is an aluminum smelting company that is owned and run by David D'Addario, who is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. David D'Addario has more than 30 years in the metals industry and has held numerous leadership positions in a variety of companies. In 2020, New Day Aluminum agreed to sell 60,000 tons of bauxite residue in an effort to improve sustainability and help the environment.

Through its subsidiary, Noranda Alumina, New Day Aluminum executed a deal with Cemtech Materials Corporation to sell the bauxite residue, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2020. The Bauxite residue, which contains iron (FE), is intended to be used in the production of cement as a replacement for the iron-bearing materials that are currently used in cement production. The agreement was approved by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. New Day Aluminum has executed the agreement with the hope that it will take the business one step closer to their goal of developing a zero-residue refinery and reducing their carbon footprint.

At-Home Recycling Tips

As chairman and CEO of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based company New Day Aluminum LLC, David D'Addario has over 30 years of experience in the metals industry. Since 1984, David D’Addario has led and reformed multiple aluminum recycling efforts. There are many ways you can recycle diverse materials at home with minimal financial or time investment.

Different cities have different recycling guidelines. Even so, there are ways you can maximize the amount of usable recyclable materials you put in your residential recycling bin. First, check your city’s website for its guidelines because each location has different drop-off locations for different materials, and they collaborate with third-party recycling companies to offer the service.

One important rule is that the recyclable material must be clean so it can be recycled properly. Clean containers until they are clean enough to be used again. If a portion of a container is clean, but the rest cannot be cleaned, like a greasy pizza box, place only the clean part in your curbside recycling bin.

Multiple factors can render an otherwise-eligible batch of recyclables unfit for a processing facility. One is the presence of one-use plastic bags, like grocery or sandwich bags, which can jam machinery. Another problem is if the material is too small, which can cause the same problem. Find the proper drop-off site for single-use bags, and don’t recycle anything smaller than a credit card.

The Workplace Safety Commitment

Serving as the chairman and CEO of New Day Aluminum Holdings, LLC, David D'Addario delivers alumina and bauxite production solutions to clients worldwide. One foundational aspect of the company David D'Addario helps lead is workplace safety, with this commitment extending to employees, partners, and visitors.

Among the stringent protocols and procedures enforced at New Day Aluminum worksites is the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Height protections are in place to avoid falls, and safety guards are used on equipment in areas that present hazards. Additionally, workers must make all pedestrians or visitors in the general vicinity aware when any machines are in use.

Material handling is another area of significant concern. Employees must ensure that they follow all safe handling steps while they haul, move, and transport materials. Workers must adhere to permit procedures and confine work to the spaces where it is allowed.

Training and education on shared workplace rules are essential parts of the New Day Aluminum Holdings ethos. The aim is to avoid injuries, boost situational awareness, and make following protocol second nature. The company’s emphasis is on strictly adhering to internal rules and guidelines and complying with all government regulations.

Noranda Alumina to Be a Site of Rare

An established natural resources executive, David D'Addario guides alumina and bauxite production at sites in Jamaica and Louisiana. In addition to serving as the chairman and CEO of New Day Aluminum Holdings LLC, David D’Addario oversees Noranda Alumina. The latter is a subsidiary operation in St. James Parish, Louisiana, that is part of DADA Holdings.

As reported in The Advocate, Toronto-headquartered Enervoxa, a green technology company, is partnering with DADA Holdings to create ElementUS. Bauxite residue is left in piles on site after the smelting process for alumina extraction. The companies aim to extract materials from this residue at Noranda Alumina’s $800 million plant.

The extracted rare earth elements from the residue are commercially valuable: they are used in the manufacture of smartphones, batteries, magnets, and flat-screen televisions. The elements are also essential to the crafting of industrial products such as medical scanning equipment, electric vehicles, and aircraft engines.

This solution not only reduces Noranda’s environmental footprint but also addresses dependence on suppliers in China for minerals used in technology. Existing in limited quantity and always in high demand, rare earth elements have a vital role in national defense and ensuring US commercial growth. The project will result in the hiring of 200 additional ElementUS workers at a Gramercy plant.

An Overview of Bauxite and Its Uses

A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, David D’Addario has been working in the metals industry for the last three decades. Since 2001, David D’Addario has served as the CEO and chairman of New Day Aluminum, LLC, which specializes in mining and processing metals such as aluminum and bauxite.

Bauxite is an ore that is rich in aluminum and has different uses in the production of refractory materials that are used in various types of cement and chemicals. Refractory materials are also used in the steel industry, fuel, and building materials.

Bauxite comes in the form of a sedimentary rock before it is processed. This ore is classified into two different types, gibbsite and boehmite, which use low-heat and high-heat processing methods, respectively. Gibbsite is the more valuable of the two types. This is due to the lower melting temperature of the metal. Alumina is extracted from bauxite ore through various chemical processes.
